Take Care of You Too
What a whirlwind the last few weeks have been! Let me begin by saying how very proud I am to belong to such a strong union and an amazing Council. These are unprecedented times and you all have stepped up like the champions that you are. We have been called to have all hands on deck (granted in very different ways) to make sure that our students are still being fed and given educational opportunities which you have dove into wholeheartedly and selflessly.
We have been challenged to move hands on, engaging, learning activities to online formats and for some of us who ... let's just say ... do not have great technology skills, this time has been more stressful than we ever thought education could be. We have been relied upon to provide "meals on wheels" and literally put ourselves on the front lines to make sure that our students do not go hungry. The impact that you are having on our student's worlds right now cannot be measured. Thank you!!
I sincerely hope that you take the time to do a little bit of self-care. We need you. You are working so hard to care for everyone else around you right now. Take a minute. Breathe. Watch a movie. Read a book. Take a walk. Sing a song. Call a friend. Please do something that will bring you
joy and that will help you to de-stress. If you need something, please reach out. While our offices are closed, we are still working hard and making ourselves available to you.
Wishing you peace and good health,
La Vasha Murdoch
North Central WEA Council President
Please Welcome Our New Level 5
Greetings WEA North Central!
I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to live in such a beautiful part of the state and continue to do the work I love - protecting, promoting, and advancing the interests of educators.
I bring with me experience as a secondary teacher (and a brief stint as paraeducator) and more than a decade as a UniServ Representative, most recently in WEA Fourth Corner located in the Bellingham area. I have represented certificated and classified locals, ranging in size from 25 members to more than 3,000 members and everything in between.
I enjoy reading, hiking, xc skiing, and I just recently tried my hand at fly fishing! I am always open to recommendations for places to explore and things to do!
I look forward to meeting you and working together
to grow and strengthen WEA North Central!
